A Day At The Beach – Jenkinson’s Boardwalk Family Fun Place Pass Giveaway

JenksAmbassadorButton-250x250To me, there’s no better way to spend a summer day than at the beach. I love nothing more than having my toes in the sand, splashing around in the waves and sitting on the beach for some, what I call, “golden goddess” time – but covered in 40+ sun block and wearing a big floppy hat & sunglasses, of course!

I’ve been a faithful patron of the Jersey shore since I spent my first summer there when I was six. So if you do the math (and I beg you please not to!), I’ve been frolicking in the sand and surf there for some 36 years. In fact, the family did an overnight trip to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk at Pt. Pleasant Beach last week to celebrate my birthday.

Whether you’re a day-tripper or planning an extended stay, Jenkinson’s is a great family friendly beach and boardwalk destination. You will definitely find something here to excite each member of your family.

THM_JenksAmbassador_5A full day on the beachA busy morning led to a sleepy afternoon on the sand.

I love the beach here. It is super clean and safe, with plenty of lifeguards patrolling the waters from their tall towers nestled right along the shoreline. We brought our own chairs and umbrellas, but if you don’t have them, don’t fear, you can rent them right there on the beach. I like that they have bath houses where you can shower and change into clothes if you don’t want to stay in your swimsuit all day.

You can also bring your own coolers and picnics onto the beach, so you can truly make it a full day on the sand and in the surf. Just remember not to pack any glass containers and place all your trash in the cans on the beach at the end of the day to keep the beach looking great!

Along the boardwalk you’ll find an aquarium (with seals, penguins and yikes, sharks!), miniature golf, a fun house, arcades and games of chance. As for food, there are plenty of places to eat ranging from ice cream stands to pizza joints and even more upscale, seafood dining.

Jenkinson’s Boardwalk also features an amusement park that’s filled with rides ranging from little kids to adult thrill seekers. On Tuesday afternoons and Friday nights they offer wristband specials, where you can ride all the amusement rides, as many times as you want, for just $18. It’s a really great deal, especially if you have multiple children.

My kidlets are still young – they’re seven and four-and-a-half, so we hung out in the kiddie section. Some of my kidlets favorite rides include the Convoy Race, Motor Jump, the helicopter ride, the alligator coaster, the elephant airplane, Dizzy Dragons and who can pass up a ride on Jenkinson’s historic train where both kids and adults travel around the perimeter of the kiddie ride section for some great views of the beach, boardwalk & amusement park!

Throughout the summer, Jenkinson’s offers a variety of free events for visitors. There are weekly hermit crab races, beach combing adventures, kiddie beach shows, arts and crafts, movies on the beach (“Frozen,” “The Lego Movie” and “Iron Man” are just a few, view a full schedule here) and what we came down for, FIREWORKS!

JenTHM_JenksAmbassador_3kinson’s Boardwalk Thursday night firework show was recently voted the best summer fireworks by NJ Family Magazine. The show is free and it starts after sundown – so after 9 pm.

When we were there for the show last week, there were at least 30 boats parked offshore to check out the colorful lights. We got a tip from our waitress at dinner who told us to go onto the beach as close to the shoreline for the best unobstructed views of the show instead of standing along the boardwalk.

My son managed to find a big clam shell sitting there on the beach just before the pyrotechnics started as you see in the photo to the left, he was super excited about it!  Boy was our waitress right, we had the best views of all the amazing fireworks and we weren’t crowded on the beach for the show.

There’s plenty of that at the boardwalk. I love getting KHORS custard – like the vanilla/orange or vanilla/chocolate twist!

I had hard peanut butter ice cream on a hot waffle topped with whipped cream and a cherry. It was divine!

My favorite food for a hot day on the beach is frozen grapes. Absolutely. I’m a sucker for fried bread on boardwalks, but I also love, love, love onion rings. A little too much!

So you’re a zeppolie kind of gal, I like that! We do the grapes thing too – great snack on the beach for the kids!

There are so many to choose from – boardwalk fries, cheesesteaks, ice cream, fudge, funnel cakes cotton candy, fried treats. I think my favorite is ice cream :)
