Bringing a Child’s Artwork to Life With Their Own Custom Made Stuffed Animal – Budsies Review

Did you have a favorite stuffed animal growing up that you carried everywhere with you? What about your kids? Do they have a favorite that they can’t seem to put down?

Check out these stuffed animals, they’re my kidlet’s newest favs. Not only are these dolls cute, cuddly and colorful, but my kidlets actually designed them.  Yes, these two dolls were created from artwork that my kidlets made and turned into a reality through a wonderfully whimsical company called Budsies.

Budsies brings artwork to life created by children (or adults!), by creating one-of-a-kind stuffed dolls.

The Budsies process to make your own doll is super simple. Your child creates a color drawing using crayons, markers or even paint. It can be of anything your child desires…an animal, a person or even an object. Then you take a picture of it and upload from your computer or smartphone to Budsies website to order. In five weeks or less a custom-made stuffed animal inspired by your child’s drawing arrives at your home.

Because every child’s drawing is different, Budsies doesn’t use pre-made patterns to make the dolls. Each piece of artwork that’s submitted is inspected by their Art Director and then interpreted into an original pattern by their Designer.

My son’s drawing and the result, Budsies did a great job in capturing all the features he included on his dog.

There’s lots of meticulous planning and prep work that goes into creating one of their dolls – they have to select the right colors, materials and features to match a child’s imagination. Each doll is hand-sewn by a seamstress and then has to not only pass creative approval but also a stress test before being sent to its new owner.

The finished dolls are about 16” in height, so they are a pretty good size. All of the dolls are created with safe, hypoallergenic materials using 100% all new polyester shells and filling, similar to materials you’d find used in stuffed toys at a high-end toy store. The dolls are super soft and perfect for cuddling. They can also be spot cleaned if they get dirty or stained.

It’s awesome how Budsies turned my kidlet’s drawings into a reality. A lot of care, effort and love went into making these dolls, making them almost exact replicas of their artwork.  These are dolls that they’ll keep forever and hopefully hand down to their own kids one day.

The dolls retail for $99, which might seem a little steep, but keep in mind, this is a totally custom and hand-made doll.  Right now I see that Budsies has a summer special promotion going, where dolls are $69.  These are great keepsakes for children (and even adults!) and would make an awesome one-of-a-kind gift.

Now it’s your turn to share.  What was your favorite doll growing up?  Did it have a name?
