Dinosaurs Roam The Earth Again! Walking With Dinosaurs The Arena Spectacular Comes to NJ’s Prudential Center July 23-27

Now we all know that dinosaurs are extinct, but it seems to me like Walking With Dinosaurs The Arena Spectacular might make you do a double take!

WWD-featured-1The family is excited to go and see this live show next week courtesy of Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

My kidlets are fascinated by dinosaurs.  This show sounds like a perfect way to not only entertain them, but educate them about the role dinosaurs played in our world’s history.

Walking With Dinosaurs The Arena Spectacular is based on the award-winning BBC Television series that aired on Discovery Channel here in the US. From the commercials I’ve seen on TV to the video below, the show depicts the dinosaurs’ evolution with almost cinematic realism.

The show takes the audience on a journey back in time and the history of the world is played out — starting with the splitting of the earth’s continents and the transition from the arid desert of the Triassic period is given over to the lush green prairies and forces of the later Jurassic. Oceans form, volcanoes erupt, a forest catches fire — all leading to the impact of the massive comet, which struck the earth, and forced the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Ten species are represented from the entire 200 million year reign of the dinosaurs in this show.  Among the dinosaurs featured are the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the terror of the ancient terrain, as well as the Plateosaurus and Liliensternus from the Triassic period, the Stegosaurus and Allosaurus from the Jurassic period and Torosaurus and Utahraptor from the awesome Cretaceous period. The largest of them, the Brachiosaurus is 36 feet tall, and 56 feet from nose to tail!

It took a team of 50 people – including engineers, fabricators, skin makers, artists and painters, and animatronic experts – an entire year to build the life-sized creatures for this production. These dinosaurs are sort of like puppets where puppeteers use something they call ‘voodoo rigs’ to make the dinosaurs move like they are real, complete with roars and snorts.

“What’s your favourite dinosaur? And don’t say Barney!” Hahahaha…that cracked me up. Okay, so no Barney…how about Dino? You know Fred and Wilma’s cute pet? I’ll take him!

This looks like an awesome outing for the family. There’s a little boy in my class, who is crazy about Dinosaurs (he wants to be one when he grows up)…he would go crazy over this. :)
