Last year I had so much fun and yum making Hand-Dipped Chocolate Covered PEEPS® Pops for Easter that I knew I had to come up with another fun crafty idea for this year!
The folks at PEEPS® & Company were so kind and sent me a HUGE box of marshmallow delights for Easter. Inside there were both traditional Bunnies and Chicks, but there were also ones in exotic flavors such as Fruit Punch, Party Cake, and Sour Lemons. The ones though that really caught eye and my sweet tooth were the PEEPS® Delights, a new line of marshmallow Chicks dipped in indulgent chocolate or fudge. YUM!
When I looked at this overflowing box of PEEPS®, I thought to myself that I didn’t have an Easter basket big enough to fit all these goodies in. I was thinking to myself that I’d have to go out and buy a really big basket or…..
And that’s when genius struck!
I thought, why don’t I try to make my own Easter basket using PEEPS®?!
The PEEPS® square and rectangle packaging make them perfect to build with, and I liked the idea that I could create a truly edible Easter basket. It was super easy and took no time at all to create. I think it took me longer to set up & clean up than it did to make the Easter basket itself. Here’s how I did it…..
4 boxes of PEEPS®, any flavors and either Chicks or Bunnies
1 piece of cardboard
Cording or ribbon
Pencil or marker
Arrange PEEPS® boxes into a square basket shape
Using a hot glue gun, apply hot glue along the sides of each box to secure together in the square basket shape.
Using a pencil or marker, trace the outline of the square basket shape onto a thin piece of cardboard. Cut out the square shape and hot glue to the bottom of the square basket shape, to act as a base for the basket.
Hot glue a piece of cording or ribbon to the inside of the PEEPS® basket to use as a handle.
Fill the basket with Easter grass (or run pastel colored paper through a paper shredder and viola, homemade Easter grass!), plastic eggs with money or little trinkets, PEEPS® treats or even a cute PEEPS® plush.
How easy is that? And how cute did they turn out?
This is the perfect Easter gift for kids or for anyone who loves PEEPS® treats – it’s inexpensive and now you don’t have to find a spot in your closet to store an awkward-shaped basket for the year!
Now it’s your turn to share. What type of PEEPS® do you like – Chicks or Bunnies and what flavor?
