Did you ever want to join the circus when you were a kid? Many times when I ask my kidlets to finish their homework, do their chores, or eat something yucky (like broccoli!), they tell me they want to run away to the circus because it’s always fun and carefree.
Wait until I tell them that next month, their dreams can come to when we go see the Big Apple Circus and their all-show Metamorphosis, filled with astonishing acts and startling transformations that transport circus-goers to a realm of enchantment under the Big Top!
The Big Apple Circus brings its intimate, classical one-ring circus to TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ from Thursday, February 26 through Sunday, March 15.
We took the kidlets to the Big Apple Circus for the first time last year to see their Luminicoity show, and they loved it. It’s a great circus for kids, especially younger ones, because no one sits more than 50 feet away from the ring and it all takes place under an actual Big Top!
For its 37th Season, the Big Apple Circus soars on wings of artifice and illusion, to a dreamscape domain where nothing is impossible – hence the name Metamorphosis.
Appearing before your very eyes at this circus: The thrilling flyers of the trapeze, swooping and swirling through circus skies. The razzle-dazzle of the rolla-bolla, an act that teeters right on the edge of equilibrium. The dynamo of the diabolo, the whirling double–tops of the Big Top. An aerial space-age acrobatic adventure — an ascent to amazement. The risky rhythms of the Risley team, twisting and turning, topsy-turvy. The cadenzas of camels and horses, and the exuberance of playful pooches, out to dazzle with delight. The cunning conjurors of the quick-change act, defying belief and inspiring awe. The incredible flexible limbs of the contortionist in an act that will literally bend your imagination. And Francesco the Clown, captivating the crowd with his musical merriment and gentle humor.
The Big Apple Circus’ Metamorphosis show runs for about two hours and includes one 15 minute intermission. Though it’s in an actual big top outside, there’s no need to fear the cold weather, it’s totally heated inside for all-season comfort.
Tickets for Metamorphosis start at $20 and are available at www.bigapplecircus.org or by calling (888) 541-3750. Children under three are free when on the lap of a paid adult, one child per lap.
