Getting In the Spooky Spirit – “Boo at the Zoo”

The past few weeks in my household have been nothing less than hectic.  Between major projects and late hours at work for both me and The Hubs, getting in the habit of daily “homework” with my kindergarten son, ballet class for my daughter, weekend soccer games and my father being ill and in the hospital – we frankly haven’t had much “family fun-time” as of late.

Thankfully, that will all change when we take the kidlets back to the Bronx Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo and totally start to get into the Halloween spirit!

The special Boo at the Zoo activities take place every weekend at the Bronx Zoo through October 28.  All of the attractions and activities embrace the fun spirit of the spooky season, while highlighting wildlife and conservation.

We stumbled upon this fun month-long event last year and the kidlets had a blast.  It’s a great way to celebrate Halloween with safe, family friendly activities including a haunted walk-through adventure – The Haunting at Habitat Mansion – and the Creepy Hollows Hayride.  There are magic shows, live musical performances, and costume parades in addition to a hay maze, carved pumpkin demonstrations and display, and creepy crafts workshops.

My kidlets had fun at Boo at the Zoo last year, they made these funky masks for free at the creepy crafts workshop station.

This year there is also a great savings.  Any child under the age of 12 and wearing a Halloween costume to the zoo will receive free general admission with one paid adult general admission.   All Boo at the Zoo activities are included with the price of general admission with the exception of the hayride and haunted mansion - you need to upgrade to a Total Experience Ticket for those.

If you’re interested in going to Boo at the Zoo you can get a complete schedule of weekend activities by visiting www.bronxzoo.com.

This year my kidlets are dressing up (one as Bobba Fett and one Cinderella, I’ll leave it up to you to figure out which kidlet will be which) and bringing their trick-or-treat bags with them because there are treat stations located throughout the zoo where kids can pick-up healthy single serving snacks to fill their bellies.  I wonder if I wear my Wonder Woman mask if I can get in on the treats too! ;)

Now it’s your turn to share.  What are your kids going to be for Halloween this year? As a parent do you dress up?

For full disclosure: The Harried Mom is participating in a sponsored ambassador program from the Bronx Zoo/NY Aquarium.  As part of this program, I have received a complimentary premium family membership and merchandise for specific posts related to Bronx Zoo/NY Aquarium programming.  As always, all the opinions expressed in these posts and on my blog are my very own.
