Kid Lit: Peppa Pig and the Muddy Puddles New Hardcover Book Review

I’ve come across a lot of talking pigs in my life — Ms. Piggy from “The Muppets”, Piglet from Winnie-the-Pooh, Porky  Pig from “Looney Toons” and even Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web – but I’ve never met a smarter, more well-mannered and thoughtful one than Peppa Pig!

Peppa_PigIn case you are not familiar with Peppa Pig, it’s a British cartoon that jumped the pond and can be seen here in the US on Nick Jr.  It centers on the adventures of a giggly little girl pig named Peppa along with her family and friends.   Peppa Pig is a good character that is aimed at both pre-school and kindergarten-aged children.  As I mentioned earlier, she has impeccable manners and she teaches the values of family, friendship, fun and humor.

Peppa is now jumping off the small screen and into the pages of a great new hard-cover children’s book Peppa Pig and the Muddy Puddles from Candlewick Press.

It’s raining.  And raining and raining and raining!  When Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig tuck Peppa and her little brother George into bed they dream of all the muddy puddles there will be to jump in the next day.  But when a flood occurs instead, Peppa makes the best of it, going with Granny Pig and Grandpa Pig in their boat to visit the store and help their neighbors get the supplies they need.   Once Peppa and her family save the day and the flood waters recede, Peppa is rewarded with her favorite activity – jumping in a big muddy puddle!

The book is 32 pages in length and features vibrant and whimsical illustrations.  It is a good read-aloud book for the family to enjoy as well as an easy-to-ready story for any beginner reader to try on their own.  The inside of the book jacket also features its own surprise – it’s a Peppa Pig coloring page!

Peppa2Peppa Pig and the Muddy Puddles retails for $12.99 and can be found at bookstores, big box retailers and various online book sellers.   I hoping that more Peppa Pig books will come out soon, as you can see, my daughter is totally captivated!

Now it’s your turn to share.  Who is your favorite talking pig – it can be from movies, tv/cartoon or literature – and why?

For full disclosure: I was not compensated for this post, however I did receive a copy of the new hardcover children’s book Peppa Pig and the Muddy Puddles and a Hug ‘n Oink Peppa Pig Plush doll to facilitate this review.   As always, the opinions expressed in this post and on The Harried Mom are all my very own and are not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products as your opinion may differ.
