Many thanks to Hasbro, who sent my family and me these great toys & games to share our experience with you.
I was five years old the first time I saw “Star Wars.” Honestly, I remember being a little scared, not sure what I was going to see, but the moment those words appeared on the big screen my love affair with “Star Wars” began.
It was like no other movie I had ever seen, animated or live action. It captured my imagination – exploring new worlds via crazy looking spacecrafts, robots with personalities, future technology and of course all those different creatures.
The storyline was also easy for me to understand – it was a classic battle of good vs. evil.
No matter what hi-tech and sophisticated weaponry the Evil Empire came at the underdog Rebels with — the Death Star, Imperial Star Destroyers, AT-AT Walkers or TIE Fighters, the rag-tag band of good guys always came out winning!
“Star Wars” also gave me my second female role model (my mom was my first!) in Princess Leia.
She has intelligence, passion, and wit. I love how she takes charge in every situation and demands respect from all those around her, whether they are good or evil, and especially from her male cohorts – ahem Han Solo – who often underestimated her will.
Now, while my two kidlets had seen all the “Star Wars” movies, they had never seen one on the big screen, so it was a major event when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” came out last December. I even bought t-shirts for each of us to wear to the movie!
To see the awe and wonder in my eight-year-old son and six-year-old daughter’s eyes when those very same words “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” came up was a special moment. I knew that their minds and imaginations were tweaked!
And now my daughter has a new female role model (well, after her mom & Nana) to look up to in Rey!
So when this box from my friends at Hasbro recently appeared on our doorstep, both the kidlets and I were super excited.
Here’s the reveal:
A 12” Rey doll and 3.75 inch Home Entertainment Pack Takodana Encounter figures;
and the Bop It R2-D2 Game which was super fun for me because R2 is my favorite character, I love his humor and sassy-ness!
That night the kidlets invited their friend over who is a big Star Wars fan as well, and we had a pizza party movie night.
The next day I found the kids in the yard playing with their new Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys. They were having lots of fun as you can see.
These toys are just another reason that I love Star Wars! They helped to stimulate their imaginations and came up with their creative Star Wars play, with new storylines and different outcomes.
Whenever I see them playing with these Star Wars toys, I always ask them to tell me the title or theme of their play; it’s sort of like their sequels. They’ve come up with some interesting ones like “The Evil Empire is Evil” and “Rebels Attack,” look out J. J. Abrams – looks like you have some competition!
Now it’s your turn to share. What color “Star Wars” lightsaber would you want?
