Lately I’ve been thinking about the Aesop fable “The Tortoise and The Hare” and how it correlates to my Shaklee180 weight loss process.
When I started this journey three months ago I was like the hare. I was super strict in following the plan and daily calorie intake and the pounds just peeled off. In fact, that first month I lost an incredible 11 pounds! Woo Hoo, I could do this! Then we had our family vacation to Disney and when I returned home and saw that the scale didn’t go up, I started to get a little cocky.
As I said in last month’s post, I haven’t been following the plan as strictly as that first month. I’m still watching my daily calorie intake and trying to make good food choices, but I’m not micro-managing myself as I was originally.
So the pounds aren’t coming off as quickly as they were that first or even second month – and I’m okay with that.
Now I’m like the tortoise. I’m working slowly, but I am working constantly to reach my goal. I’m being true to my food/hunger cues but I know that my persistence and determination will win out.
See, this is where I’ve gone wrong before on other weight loss programs I’ve tried. I would lose the weight quickly and then I’d go off the program and gain it all back, plus more. It was just a diet, a controlled intake of food for a short span of time. I’ve come to realize that for me this can’t be just a diet, it has to be a lifestyle change – and that I have to look at each day as another opportunity to make healthy choices for myself.
So here’s where I am:
Stats as of 4/30/13 Starting stats on 3/1/13
Weight: 203 lbs Weight: 220 lbs
Bicep: 13 inches Bicep: 13 inches
Chest: 43 inches Chest: 48 inches
Waist: 40.5 inches Waist: 43 inches
Hips: 44 inches Hips: 48 inches
Thigh: 24 inches Thigh: 29 inches
Not much in the poundage loss from last month (3 in total), but the inch loss has kicked up a notch. My clothes fit better and I’m even starting to wearing things that this time last year I’d never be caught dead in.
Here’s my outfit today (keep in mind it’s hot in the NYC area today, close to 90 degrees). Cute, right? Well, I’d never wear a dress like this because my belly would extend out as much as my chest, so I’d look like one big blob. The only thing sticking out in this outfit is my chest – YAY, SUCCESS! BTW- the dress is from The Gap, a store I couldn’t shop at 3 months ago because clothes didn’t fit.
So my #Shaklee180blogger mantra is “slow and steady wins the race” – but this isn’t a short race, it’s a lifetime marathon! Until next month….
Now it’s your turn to share. What is your biggest weight loss obstacle?
