Family movie night is a big deal in our house. After a busy week filled with school, work, and various activities, it’s a chance for us to slow down and spend some fun time together as a family.
Now that there’s a chill in the air, we build a fire, snuggle up on the couch, eat some snacks and watch a movie.
For our next family movie night, we want to watch a comedy, so it was perfect timing that on December 8th, Illumination Entertainment’s animated comedy Minions came out on Blu-ray/DVD.
I picked up a copy of Minions © 2015 Universal Studios. All rights reserved. the very day it hit stores. As you can see, the minute I got it home my very own little minion couldn’t wait to get her hands on it!
Since my daughter is such a fan, I decided to create a signature drink that the whole family could enjoy while watching the film. After some trial and error with various fruit & veggie combinations to get both the taste and color right, I came up with a mango-banana smoothie.
To make life easy, I used frozen fruit and veggies, which didn’t require me to do any pre-washing, peeling or slicing and the best part is that I had my smoothies made in less than five minutes! However, if you have it on hand, you can totally use fresh produce. You’ll just need to add anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of ice to the recipe, depending how icy you like your smoothie.
So here’s how I made my Minions-inspired Mango-Banana Smoothie (makes 2-3 smoothies depending on glass/cup size)…
• Place frozen fruits and vegetable in the bottom of a blender.
Tip: To add an extra burst of flavor to your smoothie use a mango, peach, banana or even vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt instead of plain.
• Pour into glasses, tumblers or cups and serve immediately.
I think both the smoothie and the movie are big hits with my daughter. What do you think?
