Sometimes nothing gets me pumped more than a good playlist of music. It’s like the beat of the song is pulsing in my veins and is the fuel to get my legs and arms in motion. Song lyrics are pulled out of my memory in my head just like a record being selected in a jukebox with the words spilling out of my mouth.
I like to play music to get me going when I’m cleaning the house, folding laundry, walking, gardening, playing, exercising, cooking or even in office at my “day job.” The music keeps me going longer and in a rhythmic pattern. Time seems to breeze by and I’m finished doing what I was doing in no time at all.
Although I enjoy all different styles of music — oldies, punk, world, classic rock, electronica, alternative and dance/disco — my favorite music to get moving to are tunes from the 70s and 80s. I guess maybe because that is the music I grew up dancing to in my bedroom on my little boom box radio.
Now, instead of coming out of my old school boom box, all my music comes from internet radio. Some of my current fav stations to listen to are San Francisco 70s Hits which originates out of Morgan Hill, CA, Absolute 80s which is from the UK, KIF Sunshine Rock & West Coast which originates not out of California, but out of France (go figure, they have the mix down pretty well) and The Penthouse from NYC.
So here is a sampling of The Harried Mom’s 70s/80s music playlist to get me going. These songs aren’t in any sort of order – they’re just listed as they popped into my head:

My kidlets totally have some moves….I can learn a thing or two from them.
Now it’s your turn to share. What’s some of your favorite get-up-and-go songs?
