The 2014 FIFA World Cup kicked off earlier this week in Brazil and soccer fever has taken over the entire world for the next four weeks! Our house is no exception. My kids are happily dancing around to “We Are One (Ole Ola)” and are kicking their soccer balls all over the yard trying to copy the fancy kicks and moves of the players/teams they see on TV.
Everyone seems to have World Cup fever. Even my son’s favorite video game Skylanders has gotten into the game and is celebrating with the release of a new SWAP Force character, Kickoff Countdown!
As the legend goes, Kickoff Countdown was discovered by a group of Yetis who were snowboarding one particularly chilly morning when they came across a big bomb with the head of a soccer ball encased in ice. After bringing it back to their cabin, they were shocked when it actually came to life. No one, not even Countdown (what his friends call him), has any memory of where he came from or how he ended up frozen in the mountains.
Since joining the Skylander team he’s been trying to piece together fragments of his past. But that’s been a little difficult because Countdown loses some of his memory every time he explodes, which apparently happens a lot in the Skylanders’ battle against the evil Portal Master Kaos.
From the moment Kickoff Countdown arrived at our house, he instantly became my son’s favorite. He loves playing with his new Skylanders SWAP Force figure and hasn’t let his dad or his friends get the chance to try him out! Kickoff Countdown is a fun figure and he looks pretty impressive and true to life on-screen. I’m hoping Skylanders will continue this sports tradition and we’ll see football, baseball, basketball or even hockey-themed figures in the future.
Kickoff Countdown retails for $9.99 and was originally available only at Toys R’ Us, but now you can get him at any outlet that sells Skylanders…that is if you can find him in stock!
Now it’s your turn to share. If you could create your own video game character, what would it be/look like?
