Snack Attack – Pudding!

I’ve always love the simple pleasures of a bowl of pudding.  It was one of my favorite snacks as a kid.  Back then my mom would make the pudding from little box packets, combine with milk and heat on the stove.  Then it was poured into our “fancy” smoke gray Tupperware dessert cups with lids and into the fridge for what seemed like an eternity before it solidified enough for me to dig my spoon into one.  I could only imagine what the sugar, fat and preservative content was back then in the late 70s and early 80s, before people and food companies became more aware of ingredients!

Whenever I have to choose snacks for my kidlets I always make sure to check out the nutritional facts first.  I usually opt for single serving snacks – it’s already portioned out with a reasonable calorie count for me and also great to eat on-the-go, as well as those with lower sugar and sodium levels – since that’s the last thing kids need more of.

So when I heard about Snack Pack®’s new flavors of Bakery Shop puddings with no high fructose corn syrup and no preservatives, I decided to try it out with my kidlets.   The new line of Snack Pack Bakery Shop line consists of five flavors: Apple Pie a la Mode, Chocolate Cupcake, Lemon Meringue Pie, Banana Cream Pie, and Sugar Cookie.

Each pudding cup has less than 110 calories, so it’s a good snacking size.  Each serving size also contains 0 grams of Trans Fat and also contains 30% of the recommended daily allowance of calcium, which in layman terms means that one serving has as much calcium as an 8oz glass of milk (except the lemon meringue pie flavor for some reason).

The kidlets get ready to dig their spoons on into the pudding.

My kidlets tried out Banana Cream Pie.  My daughter loved it from the first bite.  It was very creamy and smooth and it also smelled just like banana cream pie.    My son on the other hand is not a banana guy, he was disappointed that I didn’t get the Chocolate Cupcake, Sugar Cookie or Apple Pie A La Mode flavors.   Little does he know that he’ll get his chance to try out more flavors when I pack one of these yummy treats in his Darth Vader lunchbox when he starts kindergarten next week!

A yummy snack for kid’s lunches or an after-school snack.

Now it’s your turn to share.  What’s your favorite snack to put in your kidlets lunchbox or after school treat?

For full disclosure:  I received a complimentary package of Snack Pack® Bakery Shop pudding cups from ConAgra Foods Inc. in order to sample and review the product.  As always, the opinions expressed in this post and on The Harried Mom blog are all my very own and are not influenced in any way.  Please do your own research before purchasing products, your opinion may differ.
