Oh the joys of summer! As we get ready for our annual beach vacation, I’m making sure that The Hubs is loading up the iPod with lots of great music to help set the mood. Chances are most people have a song or songs that remind them of summer. I certainly have my favorites; mostly they’re tunes from when I was growing up. Hearing those songs instantly take me back to a carefree time in my life where my biggest decisions during the summer months either revolved around what toy to play with or bathing suit to wear.
Though I’m more of a “oldies” gal — meaning songs from the 80s & 90s — there’s usually a few songs from current Top 40 radio that get added into my summer song rotation. This year it’s “Titanium” from David Guette featuring Sia and “Starships” by Nicki Minaj. Last year it was “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO.
I don’t know what it is about them, maybe it is the bass line, but no matter where I am whether it’s in the car or cooking dinner, I automatically start to fist pump. The Hubs likens these songs to riding a rollercoaster with the verses being the climbs to the top of the peaks and the choruses being the trips down hill.
So here is a sampling of what will be my so-called ‘mixed-tape’ for our trip. There’s nothing scientific here, it’s all my personal taste:
“Pocket Of Sunshine” – Natasha Bedingfield
“I Know You Want Me” – Pitbull
“When I Grow Up” – The Pussycat Dolls
“Crazy In Love” – Beyonce featuring Jay-Z
“Spice Up Your Life” – The Spice Girls (yes, I LOVED that they sang it at the Olympic Closing Ceremonies!)
“All I Wanna Do” – Sheryl Crow
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” – Guns N’ Roses
“A View To A Kill” – Duran Duran (one of the best James Bond themes ever!)
“Borderline” – Madonna
“Jesse’s Girl” – Rick Springfield
“Shadow Dancing” – Andy Gibb
“Da Doo Ron Ron” – Shaun Cassidy
“School’s Out” – Alice Cooper
“Summer in the City” – Loving Spoonful
“In the Summertime” – Mungo Jerry
“California Girls” – The Beach Boys
Now it’s your time to share. What is your favorite summer song?
