Are your kids like mine, tech-savvy?
At age seven and just a smidge under five, I believe my son and daughter’s brains were pre-wired in the womb to figure out today’s technology.
More and more they are the ones who teach this mom how to use my smartphone and other devices. They’re also my greatest resource in finding out about the newest apps and games to download!
So when the Kidzoom® Smartwatch from Vtech arrived on our doorstep, I knew that my kidlets would be excited to try it out. They even agreed to help mom complete this review by telling me their thoughts about the watch!
The 1.4-inch color touch screen Kidzoom Smartwatch certainly wraps a lot of tech around a kid’s wrist! First and foremost, it’s a watch. It instructs kids on how to tell time with a choice of more than 50 digital and analog time displays. There’s an alarm clock feature that plays both funny tones and animations. The watch also comes with s a timer and stopwatch feature that the kidlets play around with a lot.
However, the ultimate cool factors for my kids with this watch is that it boasts a camera for taking both photos and videos, a voice recorder with voice changing effects (my daughter recorded great renditions of her singing “Let it Go” and “Happy”) along with four games to play.
The watch comes with 128 megabytes of memory which translates into storing about 800 picture or six one-minute videos. You can dress up your photos with a number of special effects including customized photo frames, color filters and distortion effects. There are fun frames available for videos too. The best part is that you can save all the images/video your children capture by transferring them to your computer.
As a mom, my favorite parts about the Vtech Kidzoom Smartwatch is that it’s totally kid-durable. The watch band is super flexible, adjustable and comfortable sitting on a child’s wrist. It’s specifically designed to withstand drops, bumps and the occasional spilled drink which are inevitable with kids! I also like that it comes with a rechargeable battery via its included micro USB connection, so I’m not constantly running out to the store to buy batteries once it’s juice runs out.
My only con is that when you turn the watch off to save battery life, the time and date need to be reset when the watch is turned back on again. That can be a little frustrating for children and annoying for parents to keep doing.
Vtech Kidzoom Smartwatch is available in four different colors — blue, pink, green & white — and is aimed at children aged 4 years and up, retailing for $59.99. It would be the perfect gift for any tech-obsessed kid or an elementary school newbie.
