Everyday moms all around the world are under tremendous pressure to make “perfect” parenting decisions, only to find themselves judged by others, especially other moms! It’s no secret that I think the mommy wars are totally ridiculous (you can read about it here).
As a parent, there are dozens of tough decisions you have to make for your family — from going back to work or not to whether you’ll breastfeed or formula feed your baby and to how your children will be educated and disciplined – and there is no one right answer. No mom (or dad for that matter) should be criticized for the decisions they make. The right answer for any parent is to choose what is right and what works for their own family.
Like so many other hot button social issues out there – equal rights, gun control and poverty, just to name a few – why can’t we all just work together instead of judging, criticizing and tearing each other down? Most times people tear each other down out of fear. In the wise words of Yoda (yes, I’m talking the Star Wars Jedi Master): “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear breeds hate. Hate leads to anger. Anger leads to suffering.”
Is acceptance of different ideas and opinions and the ability to compromise to live in harmony so difficult a concept to grasp? As moms, I don’t think so…..
Now is the time to for us to do something about it and join together! I’ve taken the StrongMoms Empowerment Pledge to create a more supportive and less judgmental environment by empowering moms to feel good about the decisions they make for their children and family.
Being a mom is hard enough without all of this mommy war negativity. If you’ve had enough of it too, I encourage you to take the pledge as well and share it with others! As this program gets kicked-off, I’ll be sharing more on everyday things we can do to make motherhood a more supportive, empowering and inclusive space!
Now it’s your turn to share. What do you do to encourage or support other moms?
