For most of my adult life, I’ve carried around a large handbag. While I like having a stylish bag, I happen to prefer a large one because it allows me to carry my life, and usually that of my kidlets, around with me. All you have to do is ask, and I can reach into my bag and find it.
Need a tissue? A pen? What about a postage stamp? Stain remover? Need a measuring tape? A phone charger? What about a safety pin?
Odds are if you need it, it’s somewhere in the bottom of my bag.
There was even a time when my kidlets were younger that whenever I reached into my purse, I could always pull out a lollipop of some flavor! Friends’ joke that I’m a modern-day “Mary Poppins” while my husband says that I’m ready to go on that TV game show “Let’s Make a Deal!”
So here are a few questions I always get:
Is my handbag heavy? Well, duh – yes! I’m basically carrying around a mobile version of my house.
Doesn’t your back hurt? No, I don’t always carry my handbag slung over my shoulder. Sometimes I carry by its handles. Other times I hang it in the crook of my arm.
Do you know everything that’s in your handbag? No, not always. I try to clean it out once a week or so, and I often discover items or little gems that I’ve forgotten about.
Do you rotate your handbags? Yes, I have bags for every season. During the summer I like to carry a large straw bag. In spring/fall, I like to use ones that feature bright colors and in winter prefer dark colors and faux snake-skin prints.
So what am I carrying around now?
I’m using a Coach tote bag in orange pebble leather. I think this orange is a great fall color – matching the color of the leaves on trees out there. I like that this handbag has a zipper top and it’s long enough to hold my laptop when necessary.
What’s in my bag? Well, let’s take a look:
There are my wallet and car keys – which has a little viewfinder attached that includes a photo of my family from our beach vacation to Ocean City, MD this year.
I have my spiral planner & favorite pen which go with me everywhere. As much as I love technology, I prefer to put pen to paper when it comes to my and my family’s schedule. I’m a visual person and like to see everything laid out in front of me.
Now that the weather is changing I have an all-purpose scarf and pair of gloves for when it gets chilly.
Some natural stress-free lemon candies. I can’t vouch for how well they reduce stress, but they do taste yummy.
Business cards. You never know when you’ll meet or run into someone and want to exchange information. Having cards makes it so easy.
Phone, hair ties, Band-Aids, tissues, flash drive, hand sanitizer, sunglasses and an on-the-go stain remover pen are pretty much self-explanatory.
You can also always find a few tubes of ChapStick® in my handbag.
