Ever since I was a kid I’ve been a list-maker. I’m sure it’s some sort of OCD manifestation, but I make lists for just about everything in my life — daily to-do lists, what phone calls I need to make, emails to send/reply to, errands I need to run, groceries to buy — you get the idea. I think that my obsessive list behavior is rubbing off on my kidlets because they’ve already made out their Christmas lists.
I remember being my kidlets’ age and sitting at the kitchen table writing out my own Christmas wish list. I wrote out my list diligently, making sure to print neatly and clearly so Santa would have no question about what I wanted. I can still remember the feeling of sheer joy when I was five and unwrapped my Dorothy Hamill Doll & Skating Rink I loved that doll!
It’s because of that feeling that I’ll scour the toy aisles in search of the perfect gift for my kidlets. Seeing the smiles on their faces when they get something they’ve wished for all season long is priceless. Since I always like to be prepared, in addition to my kidlets lists, I like to be armed with a list of recommendations from a trusted source on what the hottest toys of the season are.
So it was great that earlier this week I could take part in the biggest day of play at the annual “Holi-Day” #HotToys13 preview event presented by The Big Toy Book, The Toy Insider & Woman’s Day Magazine in NYC. The Toy Insider panel of experts have put together a guide to the hottest toys for children of all ages for the 2013 holiday season.
Their guide includes an overall Hot 20 list and then breaks out the top toys in specific age ranges from Infants & Toddlers (0-2 years) all the way up to Tweens (9+ years). You can take a look at all their lists by going to www.toyinsider.com. What I like about these lists is that they give some insight into the benefits each toy on the list offers children. This year they also added a Top Tech 12 list to help satisfy the techie kid on your list.
As you can see from my son’s list above he’s really hoping for Skylanders Swap Force. He even drew the logo so Santa couldn’t be mistaken with the Giants! I’ll admit even though I can’t figure out the game, the figures are pretty awesome. My daughter recently got a Leap Reader and will be looking forward to getting more books in the series and is a fan of Glow Pets. I’m also glad to see retro toys are well represented with TMNT, My Little Pony, Spirograph and even Furby making the cut!
So now I’ve got my list and I’ve checked it twice. That was the easy part, I think finding some of these #HotToys13 on the shelves will be the hard part!
Now it’s your turn to share. What’s the top gift on your child’s list this holiday season?
For Full Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I was lucky enough to attend The Big Toy Book, The Toy Insider & Woman’s Day “Holi-ay of Play” event in NYC earlier this week to preview The Toy Insider’s 2013 Toy Gift Guide and did receive a great bag of goodies. However, as always, the opinions expressed in this post and on The Harried Mom blog are all my very own and are not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing any products as your opinion may differ.
